To Hell And Back – A Different Kind Of Pain
While there are self-help programs for nearly everything else, anyone whose been through sudden spouse abandonment knows that there is an abysmal lack of support out there. That’s because very few people understand it. It’s much more than just complicated grief. Most psychologists lump it into the same category as divorce or marriage problems and it is very VERY different.
It is one of the cruelest forms of torture. You are given no notice – blindsided and preemptively silenced (the decision is already made, there are no discussions, no opportunity to speak). It strikes to the very heart of one’s self concept, self-esteem (and God forbid if there has been childhood abandonment or other abuse earlier in life) one’s own motivation to continue to live.
In Dante’s Inferno, the lowest level of hell is reserved for people who do this sort of thing. Seems fitting.
